When was the last time you spent a quiet moment hugging the ones you love? These warm summer days have passed us by so blisteringly fast but there has been plenty of laughter bouncing off those waves. I took a little hiatus from posting to be present in all those wonderful family moments but promise to share more in the coming months. Hope you’ve all been well, always enjoy connecting with you. Leave a comment and let me know what your favorite moment was this summer. It’s always great to read them ✌🏻
Just for fun. Have you heard of this thing? Rudy can’t decide whether he’s into this latest challenge or not. What do you think? #inmyfeelings #inmyfeelingschallenge #dotheshiggy #dotheshiggychallenge #shiggychallenge #keke #kekechallenge
She was born a beach baby, always loved the ocean but approached it with caution, unsure of what lay out in that big blue sea. In time, she learned to embrace that even if it meant taking in the view from a safe spot like this. Much love to all the parents out there, and to the brave sons and daughters who trust our guidance. I’m truly blessed to be a dad to Maelyn and of course to Rudy who you all know. Life seems to move much faster now with them around and yet the moments worth celebrating never seem to end. They keep me grounded and grateful for the opportunity to love them. We returned to the ocean yesterday to celebrate and just like the changing tides, the fears she once held had been washed away. She now bravely runs head on into things with a mighty confidence, turning only briefly to remind me to “come on in dad.” It’s a true gift to watch her shine. Here’s to many more adventures together even if it means she’s now the one leading the way. #love #family #fathersday
Life happens moment to moment yet there are times I look back and realize how those moments have turned into a lifetime. It’s officially been 5 years since we joined @instagram and I remember wondering why anyone would ever want to do this. At times, I admit, I’ve questioned the value and personal investment in the community. However, I think the beauty of shared experience is what keeps me hopeful and honest in my involvement. Through your words and voices, I’ve been exposed to new places, music, food and cultures. For that, I’m grateful and hope we’ve been able to offer you something in return as well. I don’t know where the next 5 years will take us but I’m looking forward to the journey and thanks again for sticking by us. Where to next Rudy?
If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day so I never have to live without you.” (~Winnie the Pooh)
Dipped in today for a little dance on the sea. It’s always quite humbling to be sitting far out there at the mercy of the ocean’s many powers. Despite its intensity, sometimes it graciously offers up gifts of rolling mountains to play on for those willing to venture out. It’s a strange place to be, caught between the predictable refuge of the shore and the adventurous call of the deep blue. Like much of life, it’s often worth the paddle wouldn’t you agree?
Sail away with me?
Agree or disagree? “The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves." - Watts
Ears Up! They say the earth laughs in flowers, and watching Rudy run free and reconnect with the wild things he loves, I’d have to agree. After the tumultuous 13th year he’s had it was sure refreshing to see. To all of you who enjoy running through flowers, he sends some warm laughter your way. (p.s. video to follow).
When I saw this wonderful capture of us by @jennifer.manville it reminded me of a painting I adored as a young man. “The Wanderer” by Caspar David Friedrich (c. 1818) always urged me to seek unexplored paths, and to begin new days in the unlikeliest of destinations. It’s nice to look out into the abyss and dream of what lies ahead. I’ve included an image of his original painting for you to see. What do you think? Did we bring this masterpiece to life?
Would you believe me if I told you that I advised him not to drink the salt water? I’ve learned to appreciate his stubborn mind despite the predicaments it lands us in. We were meant to be free and he shows me that everyday. So while I advise against drinking the ocean, I’m a fan of doing what makes you happy. Sometimes that means wandering far beyond the comforts of home to get closer to the things you love. Stay tuned, I’ll post a story from our adventures today.
