We all know it's important...

Fruits & veggies are vital for optimal health and as a bonus, they help fill your belly bum for fewer calories.
⠀
But let's be honest — how many of us can effortlessly eat the recommended 5-6 servings of fruits & veggies each day...
⠀
A lot of people think it's because they don't like eating fruits & veggies, but I disagree.
⠀
I believe it can be fixed with proper planning and preparation.
⠀
In fact, when you have strategies in place that make fruits & veggies convenient and tasty, you might be surprised to find how easy it gets to include (and enjoying) more fruits & veggies in your diet!
⠀
Here are six strategies I use for myself and with my clients on a regular basis to help get ‘em in:
⠀
1️⃣ Make 'em Convenient - you'll be a LOT more likely to eat the fruits & veggies in your house if they're pre-washed, pre-chopped, and ready to go.

No, they don't have significantly fewer nutrients either. If someone says they’re bad, you have my permission to smack ‘em upside the noggin 👋. ⠀ 6️⃣ Add Flavor & Spice to 'em - don't be afraid to add sauce or seasoning to your veggies. It'll improve their taste, and you'll be more likely to eat ’em. How To Make Up For Holiday Eating⁣
⁣
Did you fall off the wagon yesterday? Feeling bloated and discouraged today? Guess what, you are not alone! If you were like me, this weekend was full of family, church, food, pure laziness and naps.⁣
⁣
Holidays should be that way! A cheat day here and there will not kill you or your progress. If anything I believe holidays are a nice getaway from your diet which in the longterm keeps you mentally healthy because it allows you to snack/treat yourself a little more than normal.⁣
⁣
Stop being so hard on yourself each and every time you mess up on your nutrition. This journey will be full of much more screw ups and mistakes. The important thing is that you are persistent about getting back on track. This is where true change occurs.⁣
⁣
Here are a few tips to help you feel better about the holiday weekend:⁣
⁣
GET BACK TO HEALTHY HABITS:
Whether you were on an actual program or just trying to be healthier, get back on track! Make better food choices, exercise, limit stress, and make sure you are getting plenty of sleep.⁣
⁣
DON’T TRY AND COMPENSATE: Here is what not to do. Maybe you think you can do some ‘extra’ exercise (on top of your normal workouts) and burn off those extra calories that you ate over the weekend. Or you decide to starve yourself this week and severely restrict your caloric intake. Both of these options will not work for you and will actually just make things worse. Just go back to your normal habits/diet plan and stick to it!⁣
⁣
STAY OFF THE SCALE: 9/10 times the damn thing doesn’t show us a number that we want to see anyway so why hop on it after the holiday weekend?! This will only make things worse for you mentally.⁣
⁣
DRINK WATER: Hydration is so important regardless of how we feel. However, when we are properly hydrated our bodies can operate at optimal levels and often times can alleviate the bloating sensation.⁣
⁣
I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend🙏🏻⁣.

INSTRUCTIONS 1. Using a large sharp knife, slice the sweet potato lengthwise down the middle. With a steady hand, make 4-5 thin slices about 1/4"-1/3" thick from the middle of the sweet potato. You can keep the skin or discard. I prefer keeping the skin. 2. Spray sweet potato slices with cooking spray and season with salt and pepper 3. Insert slices into toaster (similar to bread) and toast the slices on high. Alternatively, you can toast them in a toaster oven or bake in the oven at 4. After the sweet potatoes pop up from the toaster, check to see if they are fork tender, and toast longer if desired. Depending on your toaster, you may also want to turn down the toaster setting to Medium. 5. Remove the sweet potatoes from the toaster, and cool on a wire rack before adding toppings. ...

🍪🍌Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins🍌🍪
-
Gluten free, grain free and almost added sugar free. These are one of my favorite sweet treats to make. They are super easy and a great way to use up some old bananas!
-
All you have to do to make these muffins is throw all the ingredients minus the chocolate chips in a blender and pour it in a muffin tin. Top with a few chocolate chips. Bake at 400F for 8 minutes. Each muffin has around 100 calories if you make 24 of them. A lot of these calories come from the peanut butter. You could certainly get creative and come up with some ways to reduce the amount of peanut butter if you are interested in being more calorie conscious. There are other nut/seed butters that are lower calorie but more expensive.
Give these a try next time you have 🍌that are about to go bad😋

With our current culture of having a full-time job and a side-hustle, meal prep can make your life a lot easier, and your waistline smaller. Here are some tips to start meal prepping like a pro. Create “Buddha Bowls” by mixing your favorite grain like quinoa or brown rice with vegetables and bean or tofu. Though it is a classic vegan dish, you can also include chicken for protein if you are a meat-eater. ⠀

What is ‘functional fitness’ anyway?

A recent criticism of Crossfit by Jillian Michaels was that there are too few movements, most of which are similar

Meaning it’s not functional

Now I don’t want to waste your time by explaining that Crossfit involves far more than just a few movements and it is in fact varied by design, and instead focus on the thrust of this argument

If Crossfit isn’t Functional – what the hell is?

Usually when people use this word they mean that your training needs to increase things like balance, core stability, agility, and a few other things, but honestly defining it here is hard because it truly is up to the person talking at the time. ‘Functional’ is a nebulous term because everyone using it in this context means something, but they don’t mean the dictionary definition, which is what I want to look at and use here

Functional: “of or having a special activity, purpose, or task.” Basically something is functional if it serves a purpose, and so by the true definition, the funcitonalness of an exercise of training regime can’t be judged in isolation

It can only be judged in relation to a desired outcome

You’re a bodybuilder – biceps curls are functional
You’re a crossfitter – doing crossfit things is functional (including kipping pullups…)
You’re a celebrity trainer who makes money by doing things that look impressive more than they actually are impressive – shouting the word functional while squatting on top of a Swiss Ball is functional

If it’s helping you reach your goal, it’s functional.

If it’s not, it’s not

Any other definition is based more in ideology than anything else.

🥗It’s possible
🥗I honestly have 0 regrets & enjoyed MOST of my day.... but prob wouldn’t do it again
🥗McGriddles are fire, Dunkin’ Donuts arent that worth it, & 5 guys is the place to go for a greasy cheeseburger
🥗Appreciate SMALL amounts of food you love & how they taste. I truly found an appreciation for “treats” & knowing there is a time & place for foods....but that’s def not all the time & more isn’t better.
🥗A large amount of food/sugar/carbs... or all the above... will make you swell like a balooon & prevent you from thinking straight for 4 days
🥗I’ve never felt so dehydrated in my life & it really felt like I had a massive hangover the next day
🥗I have a huge appetite. I truly didn’t struggle till after 9000.
🥗If you need some quick cals, go for fried food & cheesecake
🥗It’s amazing what our bodies are capable of & how they work & adjust when you throw them for a loop like this
🥗10,000 calories worth of food isn’t cheap.
