Great follow-up post by @joerehab · ✅Checkout my Flexible Guide To Lean Mass (link in bio) · The vertical pull and the horizontal pull are two main exercises that you need to include into your workout routine to develop a powerful back. But what are the differences between the two in terms of muscles worked and activated? Although both exercises work your back, core and biceps they target the muscles of your back differently. Pulling exercises overall are great in preventing shoulder, neck and back pain. Improve posture and balance out your push movements. . VERTICAL PULL (Lat) . Exercises such as the chin-up/pull-up are great examples of a vertical pull. It works your lats, rhomboids, mid and lower trap. But unlike the horizontal row it is more lat focus due to the angle of the pull. . HORIZONTAL PULL (Rhomboid/Trap) . Inverted rows, bent over rows are all good examples of horizontal pull. Horizontal pull exercises are a true antagonistic (opposite) movement to the bench press. Although the chin-up and other vertical pulls are important, horizontal rows targets specifically the muscles and movement patterns that oppose the bench press. The horizontal row targets the lower and middle trapezius, rhomboids, middle deltoid and posterior deltoid. It targets the lats as well but to a lesser degree. . Often times I see people make the mistake of only including the chin-up/pull-up (vertical pull) as the only exercise that they need to build a healthy powerful back and that is far from the truth. Lacking horizontal pull in the program can cause muscular imbalances and shoulder issues later on down the road. What can inflammation do TO you, and FOR you? 🔥👇🏼 - If you didn’t know, not all inflammation is bad. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Inflammation occurs when your body believes that there is a foreign substance present and it essentially tries to kill it off. 🔪 - There are two kinds of inflammation: 1️⃣ Acute, and 2️⃣ Chronic. Acute is necessary when fighting off infection, while chronic inflammation is what is the root cause of MANY diseases. - I began my third round of #Whole30 yesterday in hopes of ridding my body of any inflammation causing foods. Living with an autoimmune condition, it’s something that is vital to my overall health. How do I do this? 👇🏼 - ☑️ Stay away from processed/packaged food. ☑️ Eat an abundance of fresh and cooked vegetables (leafy greens + a lil bit of everything). ☑️ Keep stress levels low (as best I can). ☑️ Exercise!
