We’ve made it to Lombok! For the first few nights we’ve been staying in the Sengigi area, at the gorgeous @katamaranresort hotel (because who says bringing tourism back can’t be a little luxurious)! But it hasn’t all been amazing infinity pools. We’ve also spent time in the community, visiting local vendors, eating delicious fish dishes on the beach and buying fresh coconuts straight off the tree.
Yesterday we had an amazing day visiting the Lombok Pottery Center, a local women’s cooperative that helps support 4 communities in Lombok. The tour took us all around the Mataram area, where we visited local markets, museums and Banyumulek village to see the local potters in action.
From gorgeous resorts like the Katamaran, to small beachside vendors and local tour operators, the hospitality and friendliness from the people of Lombok has been amazing! They really welcome all visitors and desperately need the added income from the tourism industry. Excited to continue exploring this week with non-profits visits, camping, hikes, waterfalls and more beaches! ...
