Earlier this week I posted a POLL in my private FB group (🔗 in bio if you want to join the cool kids club), asking the @nutritionwithnicole community what they wanted to learn more about.
It came as no surprise when the popular vote was HOW MANY CARBS ARE TOO MANY CARBS?
Carbs can be confusing, but they don't have to be. Here are a few practical truth bombs that you can begin considering and implementing right away:
🍠 Carbs are the bodies primary source of energy. If you're an active individual eating low/no carb, you're shooting yourself in the foot. Carbs = energy. Energy = Performance.
🍩 Not all carbs are created equal. There are two types: simple and complex. A diet higher in complex carbs, when compared to simple, wins every time. Choose wisely.
🍉 Individual carbohydrate needs vary based on height, weight, gender, genetics and activity level. There is no "one-size-fits-all",
🥯 The right amount of carbs for your body is likely different than the right amount of carbs for your spouse, your coworker or your mom. Stop comparing and start exploring what's best for you and your unique body.
🍚 Cupcakes, cookies, crackers, doughnuts and danishes are all (simple) carbs. Rice, quinoa, potatoes, oats, fruit and sprouted grain bread are (complex) carbs. Consuming the majority of your carbs from the second group will get you to your goal faster (not to mention you'll feel better) when compared to the first.
🍇 Choose wisely, balance your carb consumption with other important nutrients like lean proteins, veggies and fats and you're 90% of the way there.
🍻 Keep it simple. Practical is greater than optimal every single time because you're more likely to stick with it!
If you read this and your still confused about carbs, shoot me a DM and let's see if together we can figure out your right amount so you can confidently enjoy reaching your goals and enjoy eating carbohydrates. Both are possible. ...
